Umberto Boccioni was a painter and a sculptor in the Futurist style. His work centered on the portrayal of movement (dynamism), speed, and technology. Born in Reggio Calabria, Italy. Umberto Boccioni studied art & sign painting in Rome. In 1906, Boccioni studied Impressionist and postimpressionist styles in Paris. He became the main theorist of the futurist movement. In 1914, he published papers explaining the aesthetics of the futurists group.
When World War I started, Boccioni, like many painters enrolled in the bicycle core and set off the front. Boccioni was assigned to an artillery regiment at Sorte, near Verona. On August 16, 1916, he was thrown from his horse during a cavalry training exercise and was trampled. He died the following day, at age 34.
